Did you know that you can neutralise the greenhouse gas emissions from your business, home or transport at no personal cost, using strategic shopping? Coal was formed from the remains of vegetation that grew up to 400 million years ago. Oil and gas comes from decayed plants, algae, and bacteria - in the North Sea it was formed 150 million years ago. At the start of the industrial revolution, we discovered it could be used for heat and light and power for machines and transportation. We started releasing all that stored carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. We appear to have overdone it. The government's target is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 80% from the level in 1990. In 2008 our emissions were 532 million Tonnes. By 2050 we have to reduce our emissions by 480 Million Tonnes or 20 Tonnes per minute, the reason for our countdown ticker. In 2007, advertising expenditure in the UK was £370 million, every week. This is paid for as part of the cost of the products and services which we buy. If just 10% of that amount was spent on developing clean technology/renewable energy sources and offsetting unavoidable emissions from our businesses, homes and transport the UK would be effectively carbon neutral. The clock - 56 minutes? We have already offset our business carbon footprint of 90 Tonnes. We bought products and services through this web site at the same price as going directly to the merchant's web site. The merchant paid us a commission (their cost of advertising) for bringing them new business. We used the commission to buy carbon credits generated by one of the projects we support, at no net cost to us. Would you be interested in contributing to this effort by assisting projects which currently are not happening due to lack of finance, using strategic shopping at no cost to you? Information
